Blue Mountain Center is a working community of writers, artists, activists and musicians in Blue Mountain Lake, NY in the Adirondack Mountains. The Center exists to provide a peaceful and comfortable environment in which guests are able to work, free from the distractions and demands of normal daily life. Established creative and non-fiction writers, and artists not requiring exceptional facilities, are eligible applicants. Residents are chosen by an Admissions Committee of accomplished authors and artists.
Blue Mountain Center Residencies

Established creative and non-fiction writers, and artists not requiring exceptional facilities are eligible for our month-long residencies that run from mid-June through October 1. Blue Mountain Center periodically hosts special short residencies with specific themes. These sessions are developed through invitations, nominations and distinct application processes. Residents work on their individual projects as they do during the regular season; but they also are encouraged to share their perspectives, ideas, and approaches with one another.

In both/and, the characters of Jamil, Arab Man, and Gay Man explore and explode the constructed borders between American and Arab, Arab American and gay, for profit and not for profit, and assorted other disputed territories.

A collaborative artist team since 1998, Bradley McCallum and Jacqueline Tarry have worked and exhibited globally, seeking to surface and discuss issues revolving around marginalized members of society. Their work, which moves fluidly between large-scale public projects, performative sculpture, painting, photography, video and self-portraiture, challenges audiences to face issues of race and social justice in communities, history, and the family. Embedded within their work, whether it is of an historical, personal, or civic-based nature, is their standing as an interracial couple.
Branding Democracy

Branding Democracy was a year-long multidisciplinary thematic exploration that gathered thinkers, artists, and the general audience around “democracy.” The project looked at the design and packaging of the concept of democracy and the multiple ways in which it is turned into a consumer brand. It intended to expose the reasons behind this commodification and to indirectly indicate a way out of the impasse of democracy. The exhibition OURS: Democracy in the Age of Branding examined behaviors and desires generated and promoted by the brand of American democracy.
