Center for the Study of Art and Community

The Center for the Study of Art & Community (CSA&C) works with clients to develop arts-based partnerships that address the following question: How can the arts help build caring, capable, and sustainable communities? We believe the arts can only flourish when the power of the creative process becomes a vital and accepted part of all aspects of community life. At a time when many of our most valued cultural institutions are at risk, CSA&C is working to establish new working relationships between the arts and the broader community. Led by founder and principal, William Cleveland, CSA&C consultation services focus on the areas of research, evaluation, training, workshops/lectures, and management improvement. Specific services include: Artist and Educator Training, Community Arts Partnership Development, Large and Small Group Facilitation & Team Building, Research and Assessment, Curriculum Development, Strategic Planning, and Board/Staff Training. In addition, CSA&C has created many noteworthy publications to advance field knowledge of art in alternative community settings; what contributes to sustainable, effective community arts organizations; and stories about artists working in different parts of the world facing, political, social and environmental upheaval.
