As a vital member of the Detroit community, 4TheatrSake seeks to promote social change, particularly in the criminal justice system. Their production Cells/$hips was a viral sensation as it created discussion for the lifestyles of the incarcerated.
The program launched in 2011 and since has been a part of MicroFest USA: Detroit. This used Detroit to springboard into an exploration of similar national efforts around issues such as urban planning, food issues, sustainability and prison issues/reform and preformance. This brought attention to what 4TheatrSake was doing and how it helped bring awareness to the criminal justice system in the area.
