Artist Statement: 

Respected leader working at the intersection of creativity and community development. Since 1975, her work addresses racial equity/ending white racism; economic equity and working class engagement; municipal and community relations and resilience/Art At Work. An OBIE-award winning theater artist, her plays and performances have been produced on stages in New York City and throughout the United States and Europe. www.martypottenger.com

Pottenger's creative placemaking work has also included poetry calendars by police officers, carved prints by Public Works Dept. staff, photography by neighborhood associations, and story circles with a city unions, staff, and management in cities around the United States. www.artatwork.us

She is a frequent speaker at a wide variety of professional and arts-based national conferences and convenings including: Louisiana Annual Arts Summit (2020), Americans for the Arts (2019), Michigan Annual Arts Convening (2019), the National Endowment for the Arts National Council (2018), and Northern New England Association of Planners (2016).
